Business Chores with some designs grumbles

I think I’ve got my breath back from the site migration. The pictures are back – I finally figured out the text to change so the links would work, then copied and pasted it in the data base with a pluggin (I forget which one – but e-mail or comment and I’ll dig it out for you.)

This month it seems like ALL the print magazines have sub call out, and my brain is not ready to think creatively. Maybe it’s because homeschool co-op is also in full run right now. Maybe next year I’ll have filled my sketch book with ideas that I can mine in Feb/March. It does seem like design work has a bit of a natural slowdown over the summer as far as sales (in Northern Hemisphere/language markets) and the summer is the perfect time to finish up designs to sell in the Fall. Maybe I’ll get the timing of this job down next year. At the moment I’m looking at mood boards thinking, wow, that’s cool. I can think of motifs I’d like to develop for that call, but where on an item is a non-kitsche place to put the motif?

Non-kitsch motif placement is right up there with spring and summer knitting. I did actually make a lace tank top out of crochet thread in high school. It took almost a year to make. To get a garment fine enough to be comfortable to wear seems to put it in the insane category of design. But then, I’ve never lived in air conditioning, so my idea of practical garments may more demanding than the general public’s.

Meanwhile, on the site I need to re-do my tutorial photos and the way I link to them so they are more pinterest friendly – I can’t pin a pdf, and I don’t have any photos of the tutorials on the links page to pin either. I know that I held the work in one hand while I photographed it in the other in my earliest tutorials, so a facelift is about due.

Just don’t hold your breath!
