My Mom remembered that she's taken a particularly nice photo of Aunt Susan in her sweater. I realized that I hadn't written about the button band. I used linked treble stitches for the greater part of the buttonhole band. Where I wanted a hole, I used a regular treble. Then I linked the next set of linked stitches into it. That made a horizontal hole in the vertically worked fabric.

I used a variety of half double crochets, single crochets, and slipped stitches after that. They countered the curling of the linked stitches. I used a variety of them depending on how much more I had of each color. Part of the band was worked into the selvage of the neck ribbing, but the outer, anti-curl parts continued around the ribbing as more ribbing. I was so happy with this project. It was especially fun to collaborate with Aunt Susan herself on fit and style. She was right; repeating more of colors in more places made harmony.
