Interview with my friend, Dr Annie

Annie  blogs at Learning as We Go where she muses on her homeschool, shows her photos, records her goals, and projects.  She also delivers babies, writes, crafts, runs, and prays.

circs or pins?
In medical lingo, circs are circumcisions, so definitely pins.

Dpn or magic loop?
Magic loop

English or Continental?
Continental.

Novelty yarn or classic plain?

I love wool that’s not itchy. Like alpaca, maybe. Does that mean classic plain, or classic fancy?

Socks or Sweaters?
Sweaters

Crochet too?
Not so much… only teeny tiny animals for stocking stuffers.

Process or FO?
Both, I think. I like the process enough to rip out a FO if I’m not happy with it and re-knit it. I think of it as a sort-of frugality. Recycling. Two-for-one on the yarn.

Garments or things that don’t have to fit anyone in particular?
Anything!

Short Answer Questions (skip any that aren’t fun!)

What is your usual process on a fiber project, for instance, do you
start with a yarn, a cute pattern, a need you’ve noticed, something
exciting you saw in a movie you want to copy, or a technique you want to
learn – then what do you do next and then what?

I love to go to the yarn store and browse, but usually I start with an idea, then search Ravelry for a pattern, and then find a yarn to match—usually not the one in the pattern… might this be why my gauge never matches?

Does anything intimidate you in knitting or crochet?
Felting

When you want to learn something, do you look it up in a book, on
U-tube, or seek a real person to teach you?

I look it up in a book, and then when I can’t figure it out, I ask one of my knitting coaches.

Any repetitive motion disorders due to knitting or crochet? How do you
deal with them?

Not yet (maybe I’m not knitting enough!)

Do you frequent a particular yarn store?
I love the Lamb Shoppe in Denver.

Do you usually finish things? If not, does it bother you?
Yes, just because I’m irritating like that.

What makes you buy a pattern (lovely photo, the story of the project, it
looks do-able, it looks slightly challenging…)

Photos definitely help! I don’t buy anything that’s harder than moderate, and “easy” is usually my preference. I want something I can knit while watching a movie.

What gives you the feeling that you got your money’s worth out of a
pattern?

When I put it on and it fits just right.

What do you most enjoy about knitting or crochet?
I love the feeling of the yarn in my hands, and the near-alchemy of taking a ball of wool and ending up with something completely different.

What are your crafting ambitions?
None yet—I think my crafting is part of my sanity, and that is ambition enough for me.
