I love realistic motifs. When I was a kid, I liked the fairy tale books with illustrations that looked like painted photographs – I really didn’t get stylized simplification until much later. Even if realism does remind people of 1980’s knitting.
So, taste aside, how do you develop motifs?
- Choosing a source

- Challenge 2, Tweaking
- Challenge 3, More Tweaking
- Challenge 4, Even More Tweaking
- Challenge 5, Final-ish Version
And this project sat still while I did other things for 2 years. After my hysterectomy in 2018, I needed some boosting to get blogging again. I asked several designers if I could interview them, and hoped it would jump start my own process.
- Interview with Ina, Entwintedloops on Ravelry
- Interview with Erica Heusser, ericamay on Ravelry
- Interview with Rebecca Tsai, shinyfuzzy on ravelry
- Interview with Katya Gorbacheva, KatyaGKnits on Ravelry
- Interview with Sara Huntington Burch, DinosaraKnits on Ravelry
- Interview with Sharon Winsauer, Ravelry’s CrazyLaceLady

All these interviews did indeed get my juices flowing!
