Have you ever tried knit in borders on a cardigan? Did they stretch out or work for you?
Have you had seamless sweaters that did not stretch out of shape?
What about seamed sweaters, did they keep their dimensions once they went vertical and 3D?
I have a suspicion that necklines, ease and fiber content play a role as well as seams, but I have no data on it.

I was just having this conversation with my dad about the role fiber plays in design! Don’t laugh, KEC is a “family” biz and my parents have both learned a lot… though neither knit. Anyway, we were chatting about the fact that yarn is a tube and depending upon the fiber (and other aspects) that tube can be thick or thin, rigid or collapsible. When you knit a tube with a tube, the inner tube (pun intended) will be smaller than the outer tube by the dimension of the thickness of the yarn tube / whether the yarn tube remained rigid or collapsed. That’s as far as we got before derailing to ease, but something to think about and test for your data points ;-).
Only 2 of my kids knit, but everyone in the family knows about swatches, I’ll bet your folks have picked up a ton!
