Editor: Patternist, why are you sitting in the closet?
Patternist: I’m hiding from Sample Crocheter.
Editor: Why?
Patternist: She’s working off my charts. She’s going to find things that need to change. My pretty charts will never be the same.
Editor: Isn’t that the point?
Patternist: And she never keeps her pencil with her, so I’ll have to figure out the changes from her piece, and she makes confusing, sweeping statements like, “It’s all wrong, fix it.”
Editor: But isn’t that the point? Better her than a customer some day.
Patternist: Shh, she’s coming.
Sample Crocheter: Hi Editor, will you give this sample to Patternist? I couldn’t find a pencil, but she can find the changes in the work. It’s all wrong, she’ll have to fix it.
Editor: Patternist, why don’t you look up some techniques in Around the Corner Borders and the Crochet Stitches Visual Encyclopedia, Butterfly might hang out with you and make you feel better.
Patternist: What a wonderful idea, where are you going?
Editor: To find Sample Crocheter some pencils.
