Stitchnerd from Ravelry.com suggested that I offer a version of Herringbone Parallelogram Scarf where the ends were blunted, back when she was testing the pattern. I thought that would be a great blog post, so I sat on her idea until now.
The yarn requirements are the same for a blunted scarf as they are for the parallelogram scarf (I can’t call it a rectangular scarf, since the angles will not be completely squared, even if you block it aggressively the fabric itself biases.) This modification effects the beginning, and ending of the scarf, but the middle is the same. If you have ever made the classic bias garter stitch dishcloth, then the beginning and ending triangles will feel familiar. Stitchnerd’s Noro bias lace scarf pattern has a good explanation of the process.
Beginning triangle:
Cast on 3 stitches, turn.
Odd row: Increase one. Work the first three stitches in the pattern repeat of the scarf, increase one. Turn.
Even row: Knit all knits, purl all purls.
Repeat these rows until you have the number of stitches required for your scarf.
Main Parallelogram Section:
Continue as in the pattern until your long side is 48 inches.
Ending Triangle:
Odd row: S.S.K. Continue in pattern until there are two stitches on the needle. End with K2tog or P2 togb, as fits the pattern. Turn.
Even row: Knit all knits, purl all purls.
Cast off when you have 3 stitches.
